The Analytical & Testing Center (ATC) of Sichuan University dated back to the establishment of the Central Laboratories of Sichuan University and Sichuan Medical College both in 1978 and the Physics and Chemistry Center of Chengdu University of Science and Technology in 1980. Among the universities under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the ATC was one of the first 15 Analytical & Test Centers benefited from the World Bank Loan in early 1980s.

In 1987, the ATC was awarded by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China as a distinguished organization. Thereafter, the ATC has received various provincial or national awards of scientific research and technical service.

In 1991, the ATC was the very first laboratory which successfully passed the examination by the State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision of China and received the Certificate of China Metrology Accreditation (CMA), among the universities under the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China. Afterwards, the ATC has continuously successfully renewed the CMA certificate.

Nowadays, the ATC is the largest authoritative analytical and testing center in southwest China, serving a wide range of disciplines, with a complete range of analytical and testing means as well as high-tech instruments.

In our ATC, we have a professional team of 80 members, including faculties, research fellows, technicians, and staff members. Thanks to the financial support from the World Bank Loan, Chinses “211” Project and Chinses “985” Project and many more, the ATC is now equipped with more than 40 large instruments with a value cost of more than $10 million.

The ATC is of the college rank organization directly under Sichuan University, which provides analytical and testing service and undertakes scientific research and graduate education. The main tasks of the ATC are concentrated on function as a public technology platform with high-quality analytical and testing service to faculties and graduate students of Sichuan University, and consultation and technical service for regional economic development of southwest China.

In accordance with these tasks, diverse divisions as inorganic analytical division, organic analytical division and morphology & structure analysis division of the ATC are active in routine and specialized analytical services, with service areas including but not limited to chemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering, physical science, materials science, biology, medicine, environmental science, petroleum science, geology, food safety, and machinery industries.

In recent years, we have undertaken a large number of scientific research projects mainly on biomedical engineering, analytical chemistry, and material sciences. The ACT has been well funded by the National Key Construction Discipline, the National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program), the National Program on Key Basic Research Project of China (973 Program), and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with an average of RMB 15 million/year.

In addition to research and analytical service, the ATC also puts great effort on graduate education. There are 60 plus graduate students in PhD or MSc programs, with major in biomedical engineering, analytical chemistry, material science, or environmental science.
